Buttercup Bag

I had some extra time today so I made the purse I'd been wanting to sew. It went together quickly and I like the way it looks. This one will probably go to one of my girls and I'll make a new one with a few modifications. The purse is a bit too small for what I need. I can fit my wallet, cell phone, and keys in there but it doesn't leave room for my coupons. Also, the pattern doesn't call for interfacing on the strap which I think it needs. Next time, I'll add the interfacing and enlarge the pattern 25%. That should leave me with a purse that's just right.

Free Otto Pattern

A few months ago, I'd printed off the tank top pattern that's on the Ottobre Design website planning on making a shirt for P. Nothing came of it, until last week when I came across the pattern while cleaning up. This is what I made...
Free Ottobre Tank Top Pattern

A top for B! It's my third attempt at using FOE and I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. The shirt goes together really quick. It took me about an hour from start to finish with some of that time spent trying to figure out how small the zig-zag stitches needed to be to make the rolled hem.

In other sewing this past week, I made a nightgown for M. Kwik Sew 3105

She likes it and it's functional but I'm not too happy with my sewing on that one. I'm getting better but I tend to rush through projects and then find all kinds of mistakes after it's all done. I like the pattern though and will definitely make more nightgowns for the girls from it.

I have 2 pairs of PJ shorts upstairs cut out waiting to be sewn together for P today. That will probably be all the sewing I get done this week.:)

Ottobre Design shorts

Alma pants to shorts

These shorts were made from the Ottobre Design 04/08 issue. I took the #6 "Alma" pants pattern and shortened them to make bermuda length shorts. I didn't add pockets to this pair because I had no desire to try and match up the plaid.lol I also skipped doing the belt loops. I meant to cut out a size 92 but accidentally used the 86 pattern pieces. No worries as the shorts fit both my 2 year old and my 4 year old equally well.

I had a spot of trouble with the zipper this go around. After I'd screwed it up several times my mom graciously stepped in and sewed it correctly. She also made the tank top. Thanks Mom!

Overall, the shorts went together pretty quick. I not too keen to sew with plaid fabric again but will probably make another pair of shorts like these...maybe in a khaki?

Finished!

Home from soccer and the 2 little girls napping, I had a quiet block of time to finish sewing my top. It went together fairly quickly. If I make another one, I bet it'll take even less time. I'm happy with how it turned out and wore it tonight to a Hail and Farewell party for our assistant pastor's wife.

I tried a new (to me) seam finishing technique, the french seam. It's really easy to do and I liked how it finished the seam since I don't have a serger at home. I'm thinking about making another top without the ruffles. All I need is fabric!

Work in Progress

I was all set to print out the instructions for the shirt and start sewing but I've ran into problems with my printer. Always something isn't it?

It's coming along though. I wrote down the few key points and have left the instructions up on the computer so I can reference back if I get confused. So far, everything is cut out and I have the bodice and straps mostly completed. My thread broke a few times so I decided to quit for the night. I'm hoping to complete it tomorrow.:)
