Recycled Dress, Ottobre Design

This is the dress that B wore to the wedding. I had the purple solid and gingham in my stash while the sheer fabric embroidered with butterflies came from my mom's. I started the dress and had left it at my mom's to complete the following week but she went ahead and finished it. I guess she took pity on how busy I'd been and wanted to alleviate some of the stress I was feeling while trying to get everything together for our trip. She put the zipper in and finished the sheer layer's hem.

The hem of the sheer layer is finished with a ribbon. I learned that technique from the Oliver+S free skirt pattern. Apparently, it wasn't as easy with a satin ribbon and slippery sheer fabric! Mom also embroidered a white butterfly on to the bodice to match. I love the finished dress and think it suits Miss B.

SWAP progress: Mom took pity on me again and went ahead and traced all the patterns I'm planning on using while we were out of town. I have almost all the fabric together that I'm planning on using. I still need a black knit, some denim, and a light weight print for the blouse.

K needed a dress in white and yellow for the wedding. She is so fair that yellow is not her best color so we decided to do a white dress with a touch of yellow at the waist. I used the Weekend Sewing book for the obi pattern. I originally had it tied in a knot at the front of her waist but after seeing MG's dress, K decided that a bow in the back would look best.

Basically, you are making several items that will coordinate so that you can make endless outfits. Part 1, picking the patterns had to be done by the 20th so I went ahead and did that. The next step will be picking fabrics and making a storyboard. I've ordered some pretty prints from fabric.com to start with and will go from there.

The pants are once again the Huck Finn pants from Weekend Sewing and the top is from the Fern and Faerie smock pattern. I used a knit this time and think if I make another I might not make it quite so full in front. Simple easy outfit to make and she enjoys wearing it.

She did the side seams yesterday and plans to do the waistband today but we're headed to Grandma's so I doubt she'll get to it.

Lazy Days Skirt

I tackled a few sewing projects yesterday and today while studiously avoiding the one I really need to be working on...B's dress for the upcoming wedding we're attending.

The outfit B has on today is what I made yesterday. The Huck Finn pants from Weekend Sewing and the Fern and Faerie smock. It's too dirty from playing outside all day to take a picture of her in it. Maybe I'll get one later this week after it's been washed.

This afternoon in no time at all I made the free pattern from Oliver+S. I used the left over striped fabric from B's other pair of Huck Finn pants and a ribbon that was in my stash. It's nothing fancy, just a tube of fabric with an elastic waist band. It's the ribbon used to finish the hem that makes the skirt cute in my humble opinion. I'm envisioning more of these especially if we take the plunge to start potty learning with B. How easy will that make it, not having to struggle with getting shorts/pants down?

I made this skirt to fit M which in reality means it'll fit B too. There's just enough of the stripe fabric left to make one more but I'll have to use different ribbon. M was quite happy with it and plans to wear it tomorrow.

I also finished the hammock last week but we had a tough time finding the proper material to support it. Using the wooden dowels that the pattern called for didn't work...my butt on the ground proved that. J thought pvc pipe would work so that's what's in there now. We ended up adding some extra support rope to distribute the weight more evenly. So far, it's held up but it didn't turn out to be the perfect project that I had hoped for. Next time, I think I'll just buy the hammock!
