Reversible Finch Top

I've been working on a little pattern stash bust, trying to sew the  many  few patterns I have never sewn from.  One of these is the Finch Top from Clever Charlotte.

Finch "Reversible" Top

Poor MG is getting the short stick with new clothes.  I had intended this top for her but it fit BK better.  I sewed up a size 4 with the length of a 5.  The fabric is a cotton/poly blend that had been aging in my mom's fabric stash.  I believe it's part of the Tutti Frutti collection that both Joann and Hancock carry, though this particular print was bought several years ago.

I love the shape of the top's back!

I pretty much stuck to the instructions, though I did make the top reversible with a functioning button at the shoulder.  BK was in one of her moods and wouldn't agree to show the other side.  I'll have to bribe convince her another day.

To make the top reversible, I basted around the bottom to hold the 2 layers together.  I then attached the bias binding, clipping the seam allowance by a 1/4" before flipping the binding to the other side and stitching in place.

It's a cute top!  MG will have to wait until next summer for one of her own.  I really need to get started on back to school sewing....

  1. OH, I LOVE THIS!!! The shape of the back is just beautiful - I really wanted to make this last year and didn't - I think it was the combination of not being able to get the pattern in Canada (without paying a ton in cross-border shipping) and not having enough months of summer...sigh.

You did a lovely job with this; I really really like it. I need to put this back on my radar for next year!

    1. It's a perfect top for summer! Though I did like how the top in the Flickr pool looked layered with a long sleeve knit shirt....

    1. Thanks, Karen! The reverse side is varying shade of pink and white with butterflies. BK wasn't in the mood to take pics today...another time.;)

  5. Gorgeous! How funny that my daughter is wearing it layered up and yours is in shorts. It's easy to forget warm weather when in the depths of winter.
I too love the shape of the back, it's lovely.

  6. It is so adorable! Can't wait to see the other side. I waited too long, Abby is back to school next week and this wouldn't pass dress code. Maybe next year. I love the bias around the bottom, such a nice touch.

    1. Thank you! It's technically against our school's dress code too (no sleeveless tops). Though, they are usually not too strict about it with the younger ones.

  8. It's very cute. I like the unique shape. That's the fun thing about indie patterns - they seem to break out of the box a little more.
