Hodgepodge

2013 hasn't gotten off to a roaring sewing start as I'd hoped.  Instead, I've been battling a nasty upper respiratory bug.  Bleck!  But I was able to sew up a few small projects once I felt able to leave my cocoon bed.

Roxy Hopscotch

Pattern:  Oliver + S Hopscotch top, Size 6
Mods: added 2 inches to body and sleeve length
Fabric:  Roxy jersey knit from Girl Charlee

Roxy knit

This fabric is a bear to work with as it's super thin.  But I persevered and MG has a new top.  I doubt I'll let BK wear it as she's too rough on her clothes.

Exhibit A:

Covering another Hole

I had to repair another mysterious hole that somehow appeared near the sleeve hem of this RTW top after BK wore it.  I covered the hole with a starfish in the same manner as the heart patch.

leggings

Pattern:  Ottobre Design 06/07 #28 "Lily" Leggings, size 110
Fabric:  Brown cotton/lycra ribbing from Joann Fabrics

The leggings are way over due as the third piece to this favorite outfit:

Ottobre Outfit

And they'll go nicely under BK's Puppet Show dress too.:)

Have you started any new projects?

  1. New projects? Yes! Three! But no sewing... I've been making Shambala bracelets, started Free Motion Quilting and I'm kniting a pair of socks. Think this will keep me busy for quite a part of 2013. Looking forward to all the cute outfits you will sew up!!!

  2. I have some different Girl Charlee knits that are super thin like that - I'm wondering did you coverstitch the hem (I can't remember if you use a coverstitcher)? Come to think of it, I have used one of their tissue weight knit and did coverstitch the hem. Luckily I've gotten some nice lycra/knits from them, or I'd be really disappointed (:

Here's to a rip-roaring sewing second week of the year!

  3. happy 2013! well, you have gotten off to a successful start to the new year with sewing. I am not a huge fan of sewing with knits & I find it even more challenging with super thin knits, so I don't know how you produced such a perfect shirt with super thing knit fabric.
So you plan on sewing along with PR&P season 6?

  4. I'm not roaring over here either. I'm fighting something or other and my creative side is just tired. But I'm sure I'll get there. Way to get some mending done!

  5. Happy 2013! I feel like I have been totally under-productive too. In reality, I've just started a bunch of stuff and finished nothing.

    Typical me!

I LOVE the top, even if the fabric is a pain to work with. And the leggings are super-nice too. I have been wondering about the sizing on those - it reminds me of the hanna andersen sizing. Someone hauled a ton of HA stuff to Goodwill this week and while it is all adorable, I'm not buying it because I can't read the sizing. size 100? huh?

Keep up the good work and I hope recovery comes quickly!

    1. Maybe we just need to ease into it?:)

European sizing like HA is based on height so 100cm is approximately the size for a 3-5 year old. For the OD patterns, I often mix and match the width sizes and length as for the most part my kids are tall but slim. I was just tracing something off for my oldest daughter (she's 13 years old and 5'6") and did a 140 (approx 9-11 year old) for width and a 156 for height. It was a dress so the length wasn't quite as big a deal as it would be for pants. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you're accustomed to the centimeter sizing it kind of grows on you.;)

      Thanks,

  6. Love the design of the top... the neckline / bodice. Looks like it would be super comfy. The heart fabric is sweet, even if hard to sew. I hope you are feeling better!!!

  7. No new projects, but I've returned to a couple of UFOs, so that's good... I love that top and the fabric, it's cute but not overly sweet which is great with growing (up) girls!
